Domain TRANSFER Frequently asked questions

Backlight Hosting charges a per name flat feet. You only pay for the initial yearly registration cost and ICANN fee, if applicable. You will also keep any time left on your current registrations and receive a free year of registration for each transferred domain.

Most domain transfers take between 5 and 7 days to complete. The time it takes can vary depending on the domain extension. 

You may track the progress of your domain transfer by doing the following:

  1. Log in to My Account.
  2. Next to Domains, click the Launch or Manage All button.
  3. In the upper left, pull down the Domains menu and click on Transfers. You should now see the following info for each domain name:
    1. Status – This tells you the current status of your domain transfer. Hover over the progress bar for any transfer, click the ? icon or click the 
    2. Action Required – or Error link that displays additional details.
    3. Admin Email – This field shows the email address linked with that domain name.

Upon the expiration of your domain name, you will be charged annually to maintain the domain. The price is the then-current annual retail price applicable to the domain.
