At Backlight, our goal is to provide quality webhosting to satisfy the largest of corporations at a price even the smallest businesses can afford.
But what is webhosting? Webhosting is a service providing you with a place to store your website's files - a server. An equivalent to a filing cabinet in your office, a server supplies a central area to store the data which supports your website so it is accessible to everyone on the Internet.
Your webhost should provide you with a few key services. A webhost should provide you with a maximum amount of "uptime" or time during which your website is available for viewing - any less than 99% is unacceptable - any more than 100% is unreasonable (nobody is perfect nor should claim to be). Your webhost should provide you with a fast connection to the internet (at least T1 - preferably greater) so that visitors may access your content as quickly and efficiently as possible. One more key area to look at in choosing a webhost is disk space - the amount of space provided for you to store your files. Above all, the most important aspect of choosing a webhost, however, is the staff. No matter how much uptime, how fast the connection, or what vast amounts of space are offered to you, all of these things are useless without a knowledgeable and supportive staff who realizes not everyone is a computer genious.
